Blurb: In a future world, vampires reign. Humans are blood cattle. And one girl will search for the key to save humanity.
Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.
Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them. The vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself is attacked—and given the ultimate choice. Die…or become one of the monsters.
Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad.
Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend—a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike.
But it isn't easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what—and who—is worth dying for.
Review:

As the story begins we learn about Allison Sekemoto's life as a human. The choice she made to be an unregistered human, the price she made to have her freedom. She does not exist in the eyes of the vampires, therefore she doesn't get her food rations, she must find her own way and she does this with a small of group of unregisters like herself.

Late one day she is attacked by creatures, and she is near death. She is given a choice, peaceful death or to become the very thing she hates the most. The choice is easy, she's a survivor.

She has much she must learn from her new vampire sire. He teaches her, what other choice does he have. He's searching for something within this vampire city. Their time is cut short and he sends her away, for her own protection.

Wandering through the world, she stumbles upon a group of humans, drawn to them she passes herself off as human. Though she can be discovered at any time...

The Immortal Rules is one hell of a roller coaster ride. Julie Kagawa is a master storyteller that focuses on the tiniest details and spins beautifully interweaving story lines.

I completely fell in this book and at the end I crawled back out of the book wanting so much more, I will be waiting for the second book.

The Immortal Rules is how a vampire story should be told.
